    BlackBear Performance Autocal

    It's no secret but most know Justin at BlackBear Performance is the goto guy for tuning and flashing ECM's on GM's. I just purchased their new AutoCal device the uses EFILive software to tune my chevy. In short, the tuning is done by receiving map profiles by way of email taken from the logged data from the autocal after being connected to my vehicle. I just purchased everything so I'm thinking it will be around a week when I get the new tune up in my vehicle. I will report updates on this as I get them.

    Let me start off by saying you probably wont want to read my experience here unless you are either serious about how your vehicle runs, or you are thinking of making a similar investment for your own vehicle.

    Ok so is a tune by Justin worth it? My overall answer is Heck Yes!

    So I finially got around to hooking up the small autocal controller and going for a 30 minute drive to log data to email Justin so he can tune a map and email it back to me. Justin set me up with 3 different ECM maps, and 3 TCM(these are transmission maps) maps. Basically they were a 91 octane, 87-89 octane, and Stock ECM maps. And a Sport, Tow, and Stock transmission maps.

    So far I have only installed the 91 octane ECM and Sport TCM map combo. The before and after differences are not just noticeable, but there is a very noticeable difference! You can tell there is more HP right away. Added Timing, tweaked air/fuel ratios, extended shift points, much quicker shift rates, and it goes into the V4mode a lot sooner for a lot longer.

    The only downfall for me is that I don't have the knowledge to tune my application myself. But then again this is not something I'm doing for the dragstrip, just much improved everyday performance. I'm very happy with the results.

    That's exactly what I'm looking for. My avalanche is my tow vehicle/work truck. This thing will never see the dragstrip
